Answer A and B on your own paper and
post a question you have about these diseases as well as a piece of your prior knowledge. This can come from your experience with family members or friends and/or past readings that you have done.

II. Epilepsy: Another disease of the nervous system
C) Make a post concerning epilepsy that comes from your readings/writings that we did earlier this week.
D) Make a post concerning epilepsy that comes from your knowledge prior to this week.

III. Reply to each other.

Stephon, what happens to your brain cells? Isn't there something to do with tangles that are created in the brain called plaques. Who can provide more information down this avenue??

I heard from my psychology class that people with Alzheimer's can lose all their memory or just parts of their memory. Like my teacher gave an example her Aunt can't remember her own son but her aunt remembers her niece (my teacher) the catch to it though is that even though she remembers my teacher her aunt still thinks that shes only a teenager.

Well Mrs. Clark your brain cells in your cranium lose the neurons in the brain to make the brain function or interact. To provide you with information with this disease you can go to: www.alz.org

Alzheimer's is caused by a loss of brain cells, as well as changes in the cerebral cortex (the outer layer of the brain)

Plaques are build ups between cells. They consist of a protein fragment called beta-amyloid,tangles are twisted fibers with a different protein called tau. Plaques and tangles form in patterns, beginning in areas important in learning and memory and then spreading to other regions.

Did you know that Some Scientists believe that genetics may play a role in many AD cases early-onset familial AD, a rare form of AD that usually occurs between the ages of 30 and 60, is inherited. The more common form of AD is known as late-onset. It occurs later in life, and no obvious inheritance pattern is seen in most families.

My prior knowledge on Epilepsy is about my great uncle. He had it before he passed away and he talked about how some seizures he had were seizures that would last a few seconds, and then some that lasted so long he would wake up in the hospital. The seizures also are very deadly and that's how my great uncle came to rest.

In Alzheimer's disease, there is an overall shrinkage of brain tissue. The grooves or furrows in the brain, plural of sulcus, are noticeably widened and there is shrinkage of the gyri well-developed folds of the brain's outer layer. In addition, the ventricles, or chambers within the brain that contain cerebrospinal fluid, are noticeably enlarged.

Whoevelops Alzheimer's disease? main risk factor for Alzheimer's disease is increased age. As a population ages, the frequency of Alzheimer's disease continues to increase. Ten percent of people over 65 years of age and 50% of those over 85 years of age have Alzheimer's disease. Unless new treatments are developed to decrease the likelihood of developing Alzheimer's disease, the number of individuals with Alzheimer's disease in the United States is expected to be 14 million by the year 2050.

Epilepsy is seziures.

9:14 AM
Blogger MrsClark said...

I did not know that, Tiuyana. I have had about five seizures in my life. However, I've never been diagnosed with Epilepsy. My doctors over the years are aware of them. Four of them occurred when I was a teenager. This is a time of rapid growth in the body. These seizures occurred after I stood up and hadn't eaten or drank anything for a while. The third one happened in a similar situation, but I had taken some medication on an empty stomach. The fourth time was when I was in the hospital and had sustained a significant blood loss before an emergency surgery. What do you think that all of these had in common??? Could it have something to do with electrolyte balance?
